the Feb. 25 issue of the News
which featured a front-page photo-
graph of her and the trees.

But Earl's president Stan Fuller
said, “We never intended to cut the
big trees. What we were worried
about is that there was a lot of
brush and we had customers and
waitresses parking back there in
that brushy area.

“We were worried about their
safety late at night.

Marine Drive.

Alta time when many property
owners are trying to subdivide farg-
er lots, owners of two Erwin Drive
lots near Stearman Beach want to
consolidate their holdings into one
Jot. They also want to solve the
ongoing flooding problem caused
by the topography of the two lots
by adding fill and rebuilding a
crumbling seawall,

The centre of the property is
lower than the front and the back
resulting in the existing house
occasionally sitting in three feet
(0.9 in) of seawater. The seawall in
front of the property encroaches on
public waterfront land,

At the March 21 West
Vancouver District Council meet-
ing, Coun. Andy Danyliu argued
for referral of the matter to district
advisory bodies to deal with the
property owners® request to replace
the current seawall with a higher
version,

“If we were to tike back all of
the land that is being encroached
upon... we would regain 1,500
square feet (139 sq. m) of water-
front Jand for public access and
public use.” said Danytiu,

be remedied at the expense of pub-

If the seawall were moved back
to the lot line, however, it would be
out of tine with adjoining portions
of the seawall, which was built in
the 1960s as part of a local
improvement plan to alleviate
flooding.

The new owners of the property
want to add fill toa depth of up to
5.5 feet (1.7 m), and then use the
new grade as the elevation for cal-
culating allowable height of their
future home. Their requested devel-
opment variance may be considered
at council's Aprif 11 meeting.
