And for the future? ‘‘I see True North stores. I see our product nationally by the end of the year."* Most recently, Arthurs and Sawchuk have become the official clothiers of a travelling en- vironmental exhibit called ‘‘Earth Gallery,’’ joining forces with fash- ion photographer and Earth Gallery founder Marck Zaleski. A cross-Canada fashion shoot will celebrate the True North line with provincial scenery as a backdrop — the old-growth forests of Long Beach, the Badlands of Alberta, the wheatfields of Saskatchewan, Arthurs explains. At this point in the conversa- tion, Sawchuk comes through the door, dressed in a True North leather biker jacket, sweatshirt, jeans and cowboy boots (Cana- dian-made, again). “Good sales call?’’ Arthurs asks. ‘“‘It was great! Very en- couraging,’’. replies Sawchuk, ad- ding he expects the marina to place an order some time that week. Joining the conversation, Sawchuk explains the True North business philosophy. “Some people feel that when you get into the clothing industry you've got to have a (wide) profit margin. But we've tried to make everything priced within reach,” he says. “Dony and I are Christian businessmen using Christian cthics,"? explains Arthurs. ‘We believe that in the long run it will pay off for us, that we don’t have COROLLA FEATURES INCLUDE: . © 1.6 Litre, DOHC, 16 valve, EFI 105h.p.engine ° Driver's side airbag (S.R.S.) ° Variable assist powerhilt steering * Dual remote control mirrors ¢ 4-wheel independent suspension ¢ 60/40 split and fold-down rear seat ® Tinted glass Full size spare tire +e And much more! to gauge anyone to get to the top.” It’s a philosophy that’s opened a lot of doors for the young com- pany, the two say, and one that makes plugging their product a whole lot easier, “It makes me feel really good to come home after a day (at work) knowing I’ve been honest to the people I've been dealing with. It gives me the energy to go back out there and continue,” says Sawchuk, The True North line isn’t limited to souvenir wear. Arthurs and Sawchuk have recently in- troduced a line of denims called “Louis Riel Rebel Wear’? which includes: men’s and ladies’ jeans, buccaneer shirts and a new hood- ed shirt; a line of Navajo-pattern- ed polar fleece, leather biker jackets with a choice of True North logos embroidered across the back; and animal-patterned vests. Though it’s hard to picture these two flipping through Vogue mag- azine in the lift lineup at Whistler, Sawchuk and Arthurs say they look to magazines, movies, even rock stars, to provide inspiration for their designs. Sawchuk and Arthurs seem well on their way to making a (Cana- dian) name for themselves, Canadian patriots interested in “unification of the nation by clothing’? can contact True North Clothing Co, at 987-4469, NEED BRAKES, SHOCKS OR EXHAUST WORK?
