Rarely have I seen sucha dazzling array of glamorous cocktail dresses! Again black was the color of choice for alniost all the ladies but the variety and styles were exquisite — and ex- pensive! Though one damsel did whisper in ny ear that she bought her trim little number at Zeller’s — for a song! The catering was well handled by petite Julie Burke and her Everything Done Right catering crew from North Van, set off by Mission Hill Wisies aad Cointreau on ice ... There were clowns and ringmasters and enter- tainers and two caricaturists, who were kept busy all night doing quick sketches of the guests ... They definitely caught tie eye of someone who’s always interested in sketches and any other kind of art work, gallery owner Diane Farris, glittering in silver and bubbling with news about her Jat- est successful opening. This time, the gallery features painter, John Koerner, who sold 18 paintings at his opening last week ... Former West Van waterfront dweller, de- veloper Jack Poole was ina party mood chatting with the Hon. Etwood Veitch and the Max- millian Schell-lookalike, Richard Hulbert, the architect for Li-Ka- Shing‘s properties, and the fellow who used to throw ice cream extravaganzas in his West Van offices with every flavor imaginable except vanilla. “Vanilla architecture leaves me cold’’ claimed he ... Spotted Patty and Michact DeGelder in the crowd. Michael was one of the principals at the unveiling of The Presidio, the soon-to-open highrise con- dominium, where the penthouse price is $2.4 million ... Both artist Joanna Staniskis and Cartier’s Anni Feurmana were elegant in black and gold, the most popular color combination of the evening, while Joanna's rosy-cheeked lawyer-husband and wine con- noisseur, Peter Hyadman, chatted with the gracious Joe and Rosalre Segal . The very gocd news is that, through the dedication and hard work of so many volunteers, Splash °90 managed to raise $120,000!... Last Wednesday night was the festive opening of the new Robson Square Conference Centre and it was probably the biggest and splashiest event of this week! B.C. Pavilion Corporation vice presi- dent, Norman Stowe, did a fabu- lous job in hosting an incredibly festive affair! The ocetsion was to officially open their newly-remodelled, greatly expanded and totally upgraded Robson Square Con- ference Centre, which cost in the neighborhood of $700,000. There were S00 guests sipping and sup- ping while taking peeks at the various setups within the centre like the Christmas banquet, a real live wedding ceremony, black and white horror movies with a coffin in which you could recline, the hi- larious video by John Cleese call- ed “Meetings! Bloody Meetings!" . There was a Great Gatsby theme in the main hall with Map- pers, Vintage cars, a speakeasy, the marvellous Melloyds and bathtub gin! While Norman Stowe was the enicee, the official opening was done by Tourism Minister Cliff Michael. His speech was priceless because it was mimed by versatile Gordon White. I've never enjoyed a minister's speech more! Also enjoying the bash were Bowen's Robia and Barb Lecky (he’s a big poobah in Music °91), West Van’s marketing consultant George Jarvis, B.C. PavCorp’s Warren Buckley, former MLA and new North Van resident, John Parks, photo whiz, Kent Kallberg, Masterman Agencies’ Michael Masterman and the Board of Trade’s trim Bergie Wilson ...
