8 - Sunday, November 26 , 1989 ~ North Shore News MAILBOX Lobby group is concerned with uncontrolled traffic Dear Editor: Referring to the article NV resi- dent group hits impasse on traffic issue published in the Sept. 22 North Shore News, the Courthouse Area Residents’ chief complaint is the high volume uncontrolled commuter traffic moving through the neighborhood. Grand Boulevard in this area was built to residential road stand- erd to be a local access route to the recreation centre from the eastern edp: of the city and for properties fronting onto it. CARA has always brought forth specific substan- tiated acts to back our complaints. North Vancouver City engincer- ing department reports pertaining to our problems have been con- sistently poorly researched, pro- vide no supporting evidence and make contradictory statements. Deputy city engineer D. Bridgman’s report referred to in the article could produce no evi- dence to sustantiate his claims that “the Courthouse Area was not seen as having any more traffic difficulties than other areas in the city.”” The report also lacks in credibil- ity when one realizes how much traffic has increased in the city and that CARA has been attempting to bring the probiems and road acci- dents to the attention of the engineering department for over two years. I’ve seen no an- nouncements or publicity. And it was only through stub- born persistence that I actually located it. 1f there were signs and directions, I did not spot them. The bins are cute, but it is puzzi- ing why they are so small. On three Michael Secker is Dear Editor: I must say I never thought much of music critics. I always thought they were merely journalists who don’t know much about music. Then I read Michae! Becker’s review on Nov. 8 of Kate Bush’s The Sensual World album. Now there’s a man who seems to know alot about music. 1 have studied classical music, separate visits 1 found the com- pound littered with boxes and bags of tins and glass bottles that could not fit into the bins. There was also no provision for sorting colored glass. Have you perhaps underestimated the concern of West Vancouver citizens and their willingness to participate much-needed waste reduction plan? K. Patrick West Vancouver a fine music critic have played the piano for nearly 20 years, and Kate Bush is my favorite recording artist of time. She’s the most original, tal- ented, creative, wonderful composer, songwriter, vocalist, musician and producer j ever. You got a fine music critic in Michael Becker. Bate Jansen West Vancouver ‘We Shine At in a j unique and § major motor vehicle accident on March 23, Superintendent Morton of the RCMP wrote a letter (April 25) to city council stating the dan- gerous situation as it exists on the East 23rd Street-Grand Boulevard corridor. Mr. C. Gale, chief city engineer, states his only concern is that CARA has a different point of view. If that concern were translated into action, making cer- tain his department gathered all the facts, listened to the public and used professional criteria to draw conclusions, it should not be nec- essary for the city to spend another $3,000 to $5,000 to hire a “technical adiudicator.’’ It has been necessary for CARA to search council and engineering records to ascertain the road histo- ZENITH 29” Diagonal DIGITAL SYSTEM 3 Remote Contro!
