BLUSH WINES, THEE MARK
ANTHONY GROUP INC,

A vood alternative to white wing
and other cool summer drinks, the
so-called blush wines have begun
to flow into focal liquer stores as
demand tor the refreshing product
Inereases.

The Mark Anthony Group cur-
rently lists three blush bottles: the
Okanagan vinted Mission Hill
Winemakers’ Reserve, a White
Zintandel from California’s River-
side Farm and a White Merlot

flavor characteristics and trans-
parent pink shade peculiar to blush
wines. which are basteitlly white
wines made with red grapes,

The pale pink color of the wines
results from a dimited contact be-
tween wine and red vrape skin dur-
ing fermentation. Blush wine orig-
inated several years ago in
California's Napa Valley where a
consumer shift ta white wines feft

grape growers with an excess of

red wrapes.

For wine buffs, wine cooler
converts and simple tall, cool drink
enthusiasts. blush wines make an
interesting change of pace.
