Dead highway worker named SQUAMISH RCMP have released the name of the man killed while working on the construction site at Strip Creek on the Squamish Highway just after noon Thursday. Thirty-year-old Conley Milner was buried by tonnes of rock while loading powder for blasting al the worksite Uiree kilometres south of Lions Bay. Police confirm Milner died instantly. Twe fellow workers nar- rowly avoided injury by the falling rock. The Richmond man had worked for Edco Construction, the company contracted to do the highway work near Lions Bay, for less than three months. The incident occurred during the regular closure of the site to traffic. NV man jailed for assault A NORTH Vancouver man has been handed a three-month jail term and a suspended sentence with a one-year probation after he pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer and assaulting a woman. Bernard John Shannon, 32, was charged following a June 9 in- cident in the District of North Vancouver. As part of his probation, Shannon must have no contact except by telephone or letter with the woman complainant and must also undergo counselling as set out by bis probation officer.
