It’s helpful in keeping the populapon up-te- date as to what new ideas are being proposed for the North Shore area. It is interesting to note the three distinct styles of councils we have on the North Shore. North Vancouver — City council appears to be well orga- nized and doing a very good job. Mayor Barbara Sharp and the council are getting the business at hand Jooked after, and have a relaxed atmosphere during the meetings. Sure they have some minor disagree- ments, but for the most part, things are doing very well. And they enjoy a few laughs, and poke a little fun at cach other. watch when you see the way some of the councillors carry on during the meetings. There is constant. bickering. There appears to be a lot of friction between the councillors, more noticeable rhan the other coun- cils, and some of the members of that council may not be act- ing in the best interests of dis- uict residents. And they always appear stone-faced. I feel sorry for Mayor Don Bell, who is a fine person, and deserves bet- ter. West Vancouver District council is typical West Vancouver. Everything they discuss, including the most triv- ial things, i is blown way out of proportion, and gives one the impression that they are afraid of disagreeing with even one erson. They take life far too seri- ous. The citizens of West Van before council. Certainly the mayor and the councillors are intelligent peo- ple, bur come on West Van, tet’s see you smile. Loosen up! You might be more relaxed if you all) lived in) North Vancouver City. Lorne E. Dennis North Vancouver Bridge needs speedbumps Dear Editor: Attention, Ron Crockett (of American Bridge /SureSpan). As you've noticed we have a bit of a problem with speeding drivers on the Lions Gate Bridge. OK, so flagper, ans don’t seem to work. Nor do speed traps. Now we are told that fences will fix the problem? : Hmmm ... Has anyone ever seen someone speeding through the Save-On Eoads parking lot? I personally think that (tempo- rary) speed bumps placed every 50 metres or so across all lanes of the bridge would do the job quite nicely. The local dryclean- ers Would probably get a bit more business too. North Vancouver District council is an embarrassment to Eye-catching publication Dear Editor: On my frequent voyages to Maple Ridge, your front page, of May 7, caught my eye featuring two gorgeous young people “in combat!” Congratulations to Carson Graham on the winning of their fifth (rugby) title.
