A mainstay in the 100-block West Third in North Van, renowned hair stytist Kathy Chan of Katiry Chan Hair Studio works six days a week. On the seventh, she plays golf. Bob Mackin News Reporter KATHY Chan has been a mainstay in the Lower Mainland’s hairstyting-scene since the early ’70s. She opened a studio with partner Robert Bryan at the northwest corner of Third and Lonsdale 23 ycars ago.. . Since then, styles have come and gone, and so have her business partners. , But Kathy Chan has remained a constant around the 100-block of West Third. “Pve seen a fot of changes iv the commnu- nity,” says the award-winning proprictor of Kathy Chan Hair Studio. “People into new things like to sce changes in fashion, not just hair design, bur decor. That's what I like about it.” She has made some changes of her own by moving about halfa block west of her orig- inal location two years ago. About the time Chan moved the studio to make way for a new condo development, she also sold her business. Things didn’t work out for cither party, so she took con- tral of her studio again and is on a come- back. “It was a distressful time in my career,” she admits. “But ?’'m working real hard finding the right people and the people that love business and hair. This way, everything will come together. You have to love what you do. If you're happy and you enjoy it, everything else will conte,” She likes what she’s doing so much, the fecling must be contagious.
