Designation means more funding

centennial project.

District council believes that the
move will open additional avenues
of funding and is justified because
it has already committed up to
$250,000 in planning studies for
the proposed municipally owned
public golf course.

Ald. Janice Harris was the lone
voice of dissent against the desig-
nation, charging that council was
“putting the cart before the
horse.”’

““We have a review committee
being formed to look into that
possible land-use option for the
Northlands area, and to have
councii designate the golf course a
centennial project basically says
there is going to be a golf course
there. So why bother with the
review process entirely?’’ Harris
said.

But Ald. Ernie Crist, who pro-
posed the moticn, zeplied, ‘‘Rest
assured that if we change our
minds, that we are not going to
proceed with the goif course, the
federal government and the pro-
vincial government would be only
too happy to take back that
