Lanterman.

He says the vessels will incor-
porate traditional HAL design
features such as an expensive Lido
restaurant and pool area, spacious
public rooms and intimate lounges.

It looks like they will cater to
world-wide itineraries and voyages
longer than the industry norm of
seven to 10 days.

Carnival claims to be the world’s
biggest cruise line in terms of pas-
sengers carried. It has three other
2,600-passenger ships on order, in-
cluding the Fantasy, which goes
into service in March.

Ecstasy arrives next year follow-
ed by Sensation. (The names do
have a diffcrent ring than the
Queen of Coquitlam, Queen of
Burnaby, etc.)

Meanwhile the line is planning a
gala crossing of the Atlantic for
Westerdam, which has been having
a $65 million U.S. refit in Ger-
many.

The new look vessel is 130 feet
longer. Her size has gone from
42,000 to 53,000 tons and passen-
ger capacity from 1,000 to 1,476.
