SWC hosts jamboree THE NORTH Shore Winter Club (NSWC) provided a special salute to minor hockey week in Canada by hosting a Jan. 23 to 25 jamboree. teams from North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, Port Mocdy and Delta participated in all age divi- sions from junior novice to midget. All games provided exciting and competitive hockey. Vancouver Canuck Brent Twenty Peterson presented gold medals to the winning North Vancouver Recreation Centre Midgets and. silver medals to the runners-up NSWC. Championships’? can be seen on the horizon. The North Shore league is divid- ed into two sections, the ‘‘AA”’ or large schools (200 or more girls in Grades {1 and 12) and the “A” schools. The top two teams from each section play in the North Shore championships Feb. 11 and 12 at 6:30 and 8 p.m. at Windsor, and also advance to their respective Vancouver and District zone tour- nament in an attempt to qualify for the two B.C. championships. The ‘‘AA”’ zone tourney, known as the Crehan Cup, is scheduled for Steveston Feb. 17 to 20; while the ‘A’? qualifications take place Feb. 19 to 21 in Squamish. Three teams from each go on to the B.C. ‘tA’? and ‘*AA”’ tourneys in Summerland and Penticton March 4 to 7. The most highly-touted North Shore team this season is Windsor. The Dukes, coached by Jim Har- rison for the past six years, are unbeaten in league play and are 23-5 overall. Ranked number two in B.C. among ‘“‘A’’ schools, they have lost twice to Steveston, the number one ‘‘AA”’ school. Relying on quickness and out- side shooting, Windsor gets an average 24 points per game from 5710" guard Jen Smaliridge and another 12 plus a handful of steals from guard Marie Vecsey.
