residents Win video prize TWO STUDENTS from Simon Fraser University, North Shore residents Scott Haynes and Fumiko Kiyooka, have been nam- ed national winners of a $5,000 award in the Quasar Camcorder Competition. Their video, The Tide, judged the most outstanding submission by a panel of authorities in film- making, won out over entries from colleges and universities across Canada. Organized and sponsored by Quasar — a division of Matsushita Electric of Canada — the project was the first of its kind to en- courage creativity in video arts at the university level. Quasar cam- corder equipment was available to participating students. SCHOOL SUBMISSIONS Schools participating in the in- vitational competition were per- mitted to enter three submissions at the regional level. Video entries eligible for submission were judged on artistic and technical considera- tions, with video conceptual development relating to themes about home and family interests.
