Si mailbox >< Unfriendly signs don't help Dear Editor: In spite of all problems | recently went for a lovely swim in Seymour canyon. The water was refreshing, yet quite warm and of course the setting was idyllic as always. This swim in Seymour, the warmest and most secluded of all the canyons, is something I and my family have enjoyed for over fifteen years. But yes there are problems. At the water’s edge we met some young guys drinking beer and throwing empties in- to the bushes. The beach also had a few empty bottles lying about. This lack of respect for nature and for others is a definite problem in our socie- ty today. But that was not the worst problem. You can talk to people who litter and reason with them. But along the roadside leading to the ca- nyon are very unfriendly signs prohibiting all parking for non residents. There is also a heavy, barbed wire, greased chain link fence barr- ing the legal access to the ca- nyon. This access was donated as an act of kindness by Judge Les Bewley who owned the property, so that people in general could use our beautiful natural resource at Seymour. Instead this resource has been usurped from us and _ se- questered so that only a few residents with parking rights and river front property can enjoy it. { consider this an odious act of violence against myself personally and all other members of the community wishing to enjoy Our river. It Promoting family Dear Editor: On behalf of mvself and Family Services, I wish to ex- press gratitude and admira- tion for the article Joanne MacDonald wrote on the Drop-Ins. The accurate inter- pretation of our interview was warm, full of human in- terest and in tune with the Drop-Ins* aims. | am hopeful that parents of young children will read the article and know where to come. In- deed, | visited Lynn Valley Drop-In yesterday and dhis- covered all parents had read it. This is proof of your wide circulation and readership Such publicity can only promote the cause of Famtly ANNUITIES & RETIREMENT Services heighten programs and the services that we offer the awareness of families in the community of is far worse than the *tyahoos’’ with the beer bot- tles, because you can’t talk to a fence as you can a human. 1 appreciate the problems caused by misuse and the strain this problem places on the area residents. But this is a policing problem. Mayor Baker and her neighbours have no right to keep nature bottled up for their own use. | propose that the common problem of vandalism be dealt with in other ways. A few signs asking people to cart out their bottles and a few police checks on sunny days would do far more good than a violent fence and nasty parking signs. You see, | too would like tO enjoy our river. Terrence Hanlon North Vancouver rograms (Mrs.) Marjorie Knight Co-ordinator Drop-In Program West Vancouver draperies by S. Laursen Custom Draperies.
