Learn how to

sing your baby

PARENTS of small children
are invited to meet Pat Car-
fra in person this evening
(Wednesday, June 15) at
North Vancouver City
Library. She is an author and
entertainer, having produc-
ed the book and _ tape,
Lullabies and Laughter. She
will be at the Library at 7
pm.

Carfra was born in Hull,
Quebec, and attended
school in Montreal where
she sang 1n school choirs and
musicals. From 1959 to 1962
she trained as a nurse at
Royal Victoria Hospital! in
Montreal. It was there that
her interest in lullabies was
sparked when she found that
singing in the night nursery
would put a whole roomful
of newborns to sleep.

Since that time Carfra has
marmed and moved to Vic-
toma where she has raised

to sleep

two children, now 13 and 16
years old.

Carfra has sung with the
Victoria Operatic Society
and in children’s musical
theatre. She developed her
mterest in lullabies and
playsongs as she realized
that the tradition of singing
to children was becoming a
thing of the past.

Now Pat is in demand to
take her message to parents
on television and at
workshops and conferences.
In 1982 she recorded
Lullabies and Laughter in a
casseUe tape and sing-along
book format to encourage
parents to sing to children
and to make music a part of
everyday family hfe.

The tape was produced by
Joy Production Company.
Victona, BC and released in
September, 1982. In the first
four months over 6,000
copies were sold
