Items stolen from vehicle during car wash, e Dealer faces theft charge Anna Marie D’Angeio News Reporter adange- lo@usnews.com MARK Helmut Ehlers walked out of court on March 14 with an 18- month conditional sen- tence for five charges of trafficking the rave drug Ecstasy and the animal tranquilizer PCP (Angel Dust). Nine days into his “com- munity” sentence, Ehlers was arrested again. The North Vancouver- raised man allegedly tried to steal lighting equipment from a film production company doing work at Lions Gate Studios. Ehlers was a worker at the film site on Brooksbank Avenue. Ehlers, 28, was in North Vancouver provincial court last Wednesday for a first appearance to face the theft charge. His case was adjourned to May 17 at which time he is slated to fix a date for trial. Ehlers is not in custody. Qn March 14, North Vancouver provincial court Judge J:rome Paradis rejected the Crown lawyer's request to jail Ehlers for cwo years’ less a day on the trafficking charges. Paradis noted that Ehlers had a “rather promising future” in the special effects field of the film industry and was steadily employed in that endeavour. The judge incor- rectly stated that Ehlers was a member of the LATSE, the union that covers workers in the special effects industry in Vancouver. Paradis noted in a 17- “page reasons for sentencing that Eblers had turned his life around in the fast year.
