On Aug. 9, the third annual ‘Harmony Arts Festival kicks: off in the parks, beaches and streets of “West Vancouver, and organizers say this year’s week-long event will be the biggest yet (some. say last year’s festival drew as many as - ..10,000 people over one week). One of the newcomers to this year’s event is ArtSpeaks. : outside the Ferry Building Gallery _ daily at. noon, the lecture series will address arts issues that relate specifically to the North Shore. Cypress Recreations resident artist Ken Davidson is designing a North Shore mountain scene on the site of the old Home Hardware build- ing, and both adults and children are invited to join in, Paint and paintbrushes will be supplied. The performing arts component of the festival includes acts like Soul Survivor, Babayaga, Joey Hanlon, Theatre West Van, An- cient Cultures and Dramaworks. Performances (with the exception of theatre) run nightly at Ambleside Beach and Dundarave ier. And last, but not least, one of the most popular events of the fes- tival is Creative Kids Day — a mini children’s festival with lots of hands-on activities like fish prin- ting and kite making. Here’s another refreshing aspect to Harmony: all events are free.
