A STANDARD first aid course
required for those considering a
career in nursing, the fire depart-
ment, police department or ski
patrol will be offered by North
Shore Continuing Education on
Monday and Wednesday evenings
beginning Wednesday, May 27.

it will run for five evenings
from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Lucas
Centre, 2132 Hamilton Ave. in
North Vancouver.

The program, taught by instruc-
tors from St. John Ambulance,
was developed by a national panel
of medical experts and educators
using videos, workbooks, text-
books and supervised practical
sessions.

The course will cover first aid
treatment of fractures, head and
spinal injuries, pelvic and ab-
dominal injuries, casualty
management, heart attack and
stroke, eve injuries, and other
medical conditions. it also in-
cludes Level “C’’ CPR certifica-
tion.
