Texas blues stars set to blow through town Antone’s Women Blues Review at IE DOWN the crockery. A blues blaster is due to blow in from the Texas heartland April 10. The Commodore hosts Antone’s Women Blues Review — Sue Foley, Angela Strehli (co-founder of the Antone’s blues record label), Lavelle White, Lou Ann Barton and Barbara Lynn backed by the Antone’s blues club house band. Sue Foley came to Antone’s and Austin by way of Ottawa, Edmon- ton and Vancouver. Just 23 years of age, Foley has been turning heads and ears as a precociously proficient purveyor of nasty blues chops. She has a certain panache, too. A paisley Fender Telecaster is her trade- mark. . Her debut recording Young Cirl Blues should just be hitting the store shelves. Music Now recently connected with Foley on the wire from Austin. Foley: ‘I got into it basically through the Rolling Stones — the early stuff when they were cover- ing blues stuff. | was reaily into them, and | liked those early re- cords, They were big fans of peo- ple like Muddy Waters. | just wanted to get into what they were into. And then | found out what Muddy was into, the Robert Johnson records and stuff... It’s pretty interesting to see how we got here from there.”’ Music Now: As a young white woman playing blues guitar, have you ever had people not take you seriously? Foley: “I think it shocks people.
