shuffles into town

THE Vancouver East Cultural
Centre and the Folk Music Festiva}
join forces to bring The Dance
Brigade back to town for a week
of dance, March 18-22, 8 p.m. at
the VECC. .

The Dance Brigade emerged
from the Wallflower Order, an in-
ternationally acclaimed women’s
dance/theatre collective. Continu-
ing a'10-year tradition, The Dance
Brigade looks at social issues with
a style that incorporates modern
dance, martial arts, sign language,
theatre, song and comedy.

The unusual combination of in-
fluences stems from the varied
backgrounds of its five members.

Under the artistic directorship of

Krissy Keefer and Nina Fichter,
each dancer is encouraged to bring
her own talents to the group.

Thus Abigail Stage uses her
karate training and improvisation
skills; Kim Epifano draws on her
experience as a children’s perfor-
mer and clown; Tiona Gundy con-
tributes a special quality to the
group and also choreographs much

-of the work.

SAM SHEPARD’S Fool for Love has been held over at the Arts Club Theatre Seymour
Street Stage until March 22. The play times are Monday to Friday at 8:30 p.m., Saturday
at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. and a Thursday matinee at 5:30 p.m.
