C16 - Sunday, May 15, 1983 - North Shore News EE body tips SNA DANA ZALKO For some of my next Sunday columns I will note some top training pointers that will help you get full benefits from your workout, plus avoid strain, stresses and injuries. A person who keeps going just to keep on going is asking for trouble. When you're tired, your form tends to deteriorate and the odds for getting an injury in- crease. _ For example; when you do too many push-ups, you tend to arch your back, forget breathe normally. SHOWROOM OPEN 9TO05 MON TO SAT. 985-9714 STARTING POSITION: Standing erect, feet together, pull up out of the torso. 1(a) Jog in place for 50 counts. On each count both the right and left feet touch down. You should aim to land on the whole foot and let your heels touch down. 2(a) From starting position, lift right knee up and make a jump on left legt while right leg is in the air. 2(b) From (a) place right leg down and bring left knee up at same time, and jump on right leg. Switch from (a) to (b) 50 times, and don’t forget to about holding your stomach in, and you use your whole body instead of just your arm, shoulder and chest muscles. At this point, the exercise is less effective and you are potentially straining the back. And you are no longer using the right mus¢le groups. SS So Rule One is: Stop when you're too tired to do an exercise correctly. The point at which you begin to slop, not beyond it. To be able to understand better, check your form in a mirror. Aim for a correct movement and remember, good practice makes perfect.
