BUSINESS BRIEFS LIQUOR CONTROL A NORTH Vancouver company is marketing a new device that allows bartenders to measure an exact amount of alcohol. It also allows drinking establishments to keep track of how many drinks have been sold. Reg Bryant of North Van- couver-based Korko Technologies Inc., said Berg’s All-Bottle System allows management to control portions, price and policy for each bar station. It accounts for every drink poured from every bottle and dispenses precise, pre-deter- mined portions, up to 30 ounces per serving. “It’s completely computerized and allows customers to get a proper portion and see what they are getting,’’ said Bryant. “There’s a unique pourer in the bottles and once it’s in place, no alcohol can go through without having first gone through the dispensing ring. It measures to 1/100th of an ounce.”’ He added ihat the All-Bottle System also prices and keeps track of how much alcohol has been poured from every bottle. “At the end of the day, the owner can check the cash against the cash priced by this system. BUSINESSES JOIN GOODYEAR AND Petro Canada have combined forces in West Vancouver and have opened a new “‘one-stop’’ automotive centre at 675 Marine Drive. The new location has a total of eight automotive repair bays and is franchise-operated, as opposed to being controlled and operated by the two companies. The amalgamation of both Goodyear and Petro Canada has been in the works for quite some time and concentrated efforts had to be made to convince both companies to agree to the joint partnership, believed to be the first of its kind in B.C. A total of 20 people are now employed at the new auto centre which houses state-of-the-art equipment, most of which is computerized. FINANCE VISIT FEDERAL FINANCE Minister Don Mazankowski will speak about Canada’s $4-billion debt in Vancouver on Sept. 9 when he addresses the Debt Freedom Con- ference, a public forum on the na- tional debt and deficit hosted by the Vancouver Board of Trade. The conference will be held at the Hotel Vancouver. The board’s debt clock will be installed at the convention fevel The clock is a tally of Canada’s national debt. Later in the day, Mazankowski will hold an accountability session in which B.C. taxpayers can voice their ideas on how governments can deal with debt, reduce spend- ing and offer tax relief. For more information, 641-1259. call Planning committee requests youth member fill vacancy NORTH VANCOUVER City is looking for a youth member for their Social Planning Advisory Committee, a committee that deals with social issues in the city and makes recommendations to council. “I’m pleased to see their re- quest for a youth member,” said Ald. Barbara Sharp, who noted that the committee has requested a youth to fill the vacant citizen’s seat on the committee. . But Mayor Jack Loucks ex- plained that although the city wants a youth member, it is hav- ing some difficulty finding some- one to fill the vacancy.
