Lesley Tomlinson, the dark-
horse pre-race favorite, pulled
out after the first lap. She had
just returned from a national road

team training camp in Saskat-
chewan where she had succeeded

“It was a pretty tough week,’

said Tomlinson, a marketing man-
ager for the North Vancouver-
based Earls Restaurants chain.

In junior racing, Keith Stark
won the silver medal in the 28-
kilometre cross-country event,
2:32 behizd Neil Grover of Win-
nipeg. A day later, Stark took
fourth in the 5.5-kilometre
downhill race. Andy Traslin was
10th.

Over 400 of Canada’s top
mountain-bike racers competed in
the two-day event.

‘‘We hope to host the Grundig
World Cup finals in 1994,’ co-
organizer, and North Shore
native, Sharon Keogh said.
