set its eighth consecutive year of record breaking sales in Canada in 1998.

BMW Canada recently
announced its eighth
consecutive year of
record-breaking sales,
recording automobile
sales of 7,701 — an
eight percent increase
over the 1997 record

figure of 7,117.
Although demand for
BMW = automokiles © . was

strong, across all model lines,
sales of the extremely popular
5 Series — which recorded a
45% increase in sales over
1997 — contributed greatly
to BMW’s overall success.
Also contributing to the suc-
cess of 1998 was the intro-

duction of the New
Generation 3 Series sedan in
September.

Having only been on the
market for four months, the
323i and 328i make up over
20% cf all 3 Series sales in
1998, and 76% of the 3 Series
models sold in December.

“The 1999 3 Series sedans

demonstrate that BMW has
once again maintained its
long-standing tradition of not
only introducing new models
with ground-breaking design
and engineering advances,
bur doing so while offering
the driving enthusiast the
ultimate balance of perfor-
mance, safety, and value for
their money,” explained
BMW Canada’s president and
CEO Hendrik von
Kuenheim.
_ “BMW Canada will capi-
talize on our existing momen-
tum, and move forward on
the foundation of our devel-
opment to realize even
greater success in 1999.”

Worldwide, BMW sales
were up four percent for a
tatal of 699,266 automobiles,
compared to 672,238 in
1997,

The combined BMW and
Rover Group salzs number is
expected to be close to 1.2
million vehicles.

World Premiere of the com-
pany’s new Sport Activity
Vehicie (SAV), the X5.

Uaveiled cartier this
month at che North American
Auto Show an Detroit,
Michigan, the X5 is, like all
BMW vehicles, characterized
by well-known BMI features
typical of the marque: acs-
thetic design, dysamic sevling
and performance, and claims
of superior safety.

In addizion, the X5 is also
characterized by a compietely
new sense of driving, provid-
ed by the high seating pesi-
tion and exceptienal handling
on roads of any kind.

The X5, which will be
available to Canadian con-
sumers sometime in the

fourth quarter, is expected to
contribute substantially to

BMW Canada’s volume and
market share in the future.

As expected, — RMAV's
motorcycle division also
recorded record-breaking
sales figures for 1998, finish-
ing the year at 525 units —~ an
increase of 25.6% over last
year — and marking BMW's
best year since 1986.

BMW motorcyele sales in
Canada have more than dou-
bled within the last two years.

BMW Canada is head-
