doctors spew “speed is killing
us” slogans, that enforcement
devices such as photo radar
are effectively redtteing road
fatalities, We could spend a
few days doing research and
discovering that nearly all
“stats” on the subject are
skewed, lacking a baseline or
just plain bunk,

For example, speed-related
crashes have dropped by X%
since the introduction of
photo radar, yet increased by
X+5% since the year previous,
To wit, some years are more
fatal than others, photo radar
or no.

There are those who insist
that it is the “speed limit”
itself which is causing us to
kill each other and that the
safe flow of traffic is often
impeded by this nonsensical
limit. There are statistics
which show speeders as the
least likely to be involved in a
motor vehicle collision yet pay
the most in traffic fines. There
are stats which show most
crashes to be “speed related”
— but one could just as easily
delete the word “speed” and

police officers on the subject
and have found the average
tolerated speed over the lintit
to be 10km-h (6 m.p.h.).
Some go as high as 20km-h
(12 m.p.h.) depending on sev-
eral factors such as weather,
traffic flow, road design ete.,
and some as low as Skm-h (3
mph). Pve heard of but
never known of “zero toler-
ance.”

Method 3) Look ahead.
Why? It makes you a better
driver, Oh yeah, you’re also
more likely to spot a speed
trap if you are looking ahead,
