Suspect deemed fit to stand trial

for attempted murder and first-degree
murder. |

The children’s estranged father Michel Andre
Caouette. 41. appeared in North Vancouver
previncial court after undergoing a psychiatric

vissessment at the Forensic Psvehiatric Institute in

Port Coguithum. .
Crown lawyer Sandra Watson quickly went
through matenal in court which cannot be dis-

*, closed because of a publication ban.
~Cuouette’s children, Danielle Caouette, 11,

and Joshua Caouette. $4. were attacked in their
father’s apartment at 130 West Sth St. in North
Vancouver. The children sustained head injuries.

Michel Caouette was charged with threaten-
ing Diana Caoucte in connection with a May 6
incident. He was to have appeared ‘in court in
connection with that charge the day after the chil-

A court-ordered recognizance was issued as a
follow-up to the chargé. Michel Caouctte was not

bail supervisor or family court councilor.
