Dear Editor:

[fail to see the significance
of having young women in
bathing suity taking over halt
of @ page in our focal paper.

Yes, we know that 750 of
the businesses on the North
Shore ire headed by the male

gender, but don't kid yourself
if you think they have the time
to Iook in your paper, let alone
even think to advertise in it.

The same goes with other
businesses as with yours —
women are in charge of the
sales/marketing, classifieds
and promations and we feel
that this Sunshine Girl stuff
lacks decorum.

The bottom line is that the
News has always been for the
community — about the com-
munity. Focus on pride, both
in ourselves as human beings
and pride for this wonderful
place we cal] home.

Leave the tacky format out
— stop the insanity!

Dear Editor:

On Frdas. Sept 30, the North
Shore News Zap! page really
capped te,

The single articles a moviy
review entitled “Murderers given
top bill,” drew my eye to this page
which is directed to youth.

The young reporter, Sean Frith,
indicated near the beginning of his
Fetter that he believes director
Oliver Stone is “sick of the blood-
thirsty media.”

Why then produce such a bloud-
thirsty movie? Will all who view it
be as astute as Frith and pick upon
the film-maker'’s intentions, if in
fact this is a social comment and
not just anovher way to bring in big
bucks?

What distressed me the most is
that Frith recommended this film

unless one is disturbed by scenes of

gratuitous graphic violence,

Are there that many people who
are not disturbed by such scenes?
What does this suggest?

I will never see this film
because | am one of those rare crea-
tures who is disturbed by violence
whether it be on the screen or on

the street But tere than diat. 1

When are we going to siarten
up?

We support violence int fills. on
television, our choice of tays and
gitmes, ever in the images On some
clothing,

And yet when someone ts mur:
dered ita convenience store, beat:
en up at schoel or assaulted by a
farnily member. ve gasp and won-
der how it could happen. We will
continue to receive the energy we
putout,

If we want to five ina peaceful
world, where children can walk to
school safely, where women and
men feel secure in the streets and in
their homes, where joy and love are
the norpt rather than fear and
hatred, we must start bringing posi-
live values into every aspect of our
lives.

We must start creating the
vision of a peaceful world by bring-
ing peace into everything we do,
