Local mail hosting chess open ONE HALF of the West Vancouver one-two punch of sib- jing chess champions, Shahin and Sherwin Nabi, will have a home- board advantage this weekend as Park Royal North hosts the B.C. Junior chess championships. Shahin, a student at Sentinel secondary school, will be the odds on favorite at the tournament. This past summer, Shahin defended his 1800 and under section title at the B.C. Open, defeating players rang- ing in age from 20 to 70. The junior champion’s new rat- ing is over the 1900 mark, making him one of the highest rated cadet players in the country. Shahin has improved lately through lots of match play at West Vana cr and ULB.C. chess clubs, antl ive picked up tips from older Lrother Sherwin. He also has bene- fited from the friendships of Russel Remedios and John Reinhard. Sherwin, now 20 and too old to compete in junior competitions, won the B.C. Junior championships three years in a row. ate CORRECTIO NOTICE j in our B8-2 Fall Style flyer, Drakkar Noir Set on page 32 {| should read $49 set.
