Goodbye West Vancouver; hello Kitsilano

THE NEWLY rebuilt Kitsilano
Coast Guard station was officially
reopened June 4 by Hedy Fry, MP
for Vancouver Centre, on behalf of
Transport Minister Douglas Young.

ald site in Kitsilano was held fol-
lowing the official opening ceremo-
ny.

Since the originul station was
destroyed by fire on July 7, 1991,
the Coast Guard crew and vessels
have been accommodated at the

safety and conducting free courtesy
examinations of vessels."

The Kitsilano Coast Guard sta-
tion provides round-the-clock ser-
vices with a lifeboat crew of 13
working various watclies, as well as
two boating safely officers.

acquired land, the province is also
granting West Vancouver a 307-
sq.-m parcel of adjoining proper-
ty.

“This exchange and grant is the
successful result of lengthy nego-
tiations between the. private
landowner, the ministry and the
municipality,” Sihota said.

“With it, free public access to

a popular beach will be pre- .

served,” he added.

Future plans for the. park
include removing fill, building an
access walkway, and placing signs.

The improvements will be
undertaken by the municipality of
West Vancouver.
