August 22, 1990 ~ North Shore News SPORTS UPDATE Local brings home racquetball silver VICKI BROWN of North Vancouver recently returned from the World Racquetball Championships in Caracas, Venezuela where she and her partner, Josee Grandmaiire earaed a silver medal for Canada, Brown and Grandmiaiire lost to the U.S.A. in the tinals. Thirty-two countries were represented. Woody wins dressage division WEST VANCOUVER resident Linda Woody recently won two divisions of the British Columbia Provincial Dressage Champion- ships held in Richmond on Aug. 10-12. Riding her 10-year-old Dutch warmblood gelding, **Windsor,"* Woody won both the medium IU and medium 1 championship classes and was Reserve Champion for the high point medium class, Having recently returned from Winnipeg where she competed as part of the B.C. gold medal dressage team ai the Western Cana- dian Games, Woody intends to take a well-earned rest before commencing an intensive training program for next year's siow schedule. Next year Woody will be showing three horses: two at the Ca- nadian Equestrian Federation level and Windsor at the FEI, or international level. WV figure skaters take Ottawa gold WEST VANCOUVER figure skating paiz Taryn O'Neill and Vic- tor Kraatz won a gold medal in the free dance category of the Minto Summer Skate in Ottawa recently. Skating for Hollyburn Country Club, O'Neill and Kraatz also won a bronze medal in the original dance category in an event which saw skaters from the U.S. and Europe. Bronze medalists at the 1990 Canadian Championships in novice dance, O'Neill and Kraatz are now competing in the junior category this season. The pair have been training in Quebec this summer. Runner completes Vermont 100-miler WEST VANCOUVER endurance runner Shane Collins recently returned from the Vermont 100-mile End Trail Kun where he re- corded a time of 21 hours and 30 minutes. Collins said he was pleased with the significiant improvement over the time he registered at the Leadville 100 in Colorado last year. At the Colorado race, Collins put in a time of 29 hours in the face of a mid-run injury and an altitude of 10,000 feet. Collins’ next race will be the Escape From Alcatraz triathion which includes a swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco followed by a cycle and a run. It will be his fourth time in the race. North Shore divers scoop medals NORTH SHORE divers produced some top finishes at the recent National Age Group Championships. In her fast year as an Age Group Diver, West Vancouver's Paige Gordon won a gold on onc-metre and platform and took the silver on three-metre springboard for girls ‘*A’’, 16-18. Gordon will be representing Canada in the Can-Am-Mex meet in Calgary, Aug. 23-26. Suzanne Beil, in the girls “*D'', 11 and under division, won a bronze medal on’ three-metre and fourth on one-metre spr- ingboard. Courtney Baldwin, diving in the girls °C", 12-13, placed 10th on one-metre and 14th on three-metre springboard. Bell and Baldwin are diving locally with the North Vancouver Divers.
