Heart smart cooking
makes good sense

HEART DISEASE is Canada’s number one killer.

But individuals can do something about it by wat-
ching their diet. Jean Thompson, a nutritionist with
the North Shore Heaith Department, makes the fol-
lowing recommendations.

1. Eat a varied diet, rich in plant foods, minimally
cooked and with a minimum of added fat.

2. Balance food intake with activity level (energy
expended).

Foliowing these recommendations is not only heart
smart — it results in automatically cutting total fat
and cholesterol intake — but also affects other dietary
