42 - Friday, September 23, 1988 - North Shore News CHEVROLET’S CAMARO is available in just two versions in 1988 — Sport Coupe and IROC-Z — in hardtop or convertible. Gone are LT and 228 model designations. But the venerable “Z" still lives in the top-line Camaro IROC-Z coupe (1FP87/ Z28) and in the very bold ap- pearance of the new Sport Coupe. In addition to an exterior reminiscent of the Z28, the new coupe sets new interior treatments, improved corrosion resistance, refined powertrains and new op- tions. The IROC-Z features different accent striping, wheels, tires, inte- rior trim, engine refinements and new options. COLORS ACCENTED Both cotivertibles share a three-piece rear spoiler design, with stoplamp, that extend for- ward onto the rear surface of the doors. Head on, the °88 Camaro Sport Coupe features the fascia, lower aero panel, grille, parking lamps and emblem previously used on the Z28. The sides of the Sport Coupe get the Z28'’s lower aero panels, aluminum wheels and body color mirrors. The lower panels are ac- cent colored and show a new Camaro nameplate. From the rear, the Sport Coupe has the Z28 fascia and a new one- piece spoiler with stoplamp. New exterior colors for the ’S8 Sport Coupe are bright blue metallic and medium = orange metallic. Standard aluminum wheels are completely painted silver or gold, Inside, new cloth seats are featured for the base interior plus a new color — beechwood. Trim design and cloth are new for the optional custom interior, and a new leather pattern has been added for the optional seat trim. An AM/FM stereo unit with seck and scan and clock is now standard. A new full gauge instrument cluster with 185 kph maximum speedometer graphics is standard for the V6 and V8. BECALS MOVED Inner door panels have greater corrosion resistance with one-sided galvanized steel, replacing the zine-rich prime coated steel. Standard engine for the Sport Coupe remains the 2.8 litre MFI V6 with five-speed manual or op- tional four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The optional 5.0 litre V8, however, gets electronic fuel injection, with self-cleaning fuel injectors, to replace its four-barrel carburetor; transmissions are five-speed man- ual and four-speed automatic. New options include wider col- or-keyed body side mouldings and THE VOICE OF HOATH 4.ND WEST VANCOUVER a new dome and reading lamp. The IROC-Z model has a new lower side accent stripe and the IROC-Z decals have been moved to the rear of the doors. Both can be deleted. Fifteen-inch aluminum wheels with black-letter Eagle GT tires are standard. Sixteen-inch wheels are optional. All standard wheels are painted either silver or gold with no bright brush finish areas. Medium orange metallic is a new exterior color for IROC-Z. Inside, the IROC-Z features new cloth and trim design for the op- tional custom interior. There’s a new leather pattern for the op- tional seat trim. Beechwood is a interior color. Standard radio is an AM/FM stereo unit with seek and scan and clock. Optional engines are the 5.0 litre TPI V8 with five-speed manual or four-speed overdrive automatic transmission, or the 5.7 litre TPI V8 with four-speed overdrive automatic. The 5.7 litre TPI V8 also has more horsepower due to a higher-lift camshaft.
