Jane Fawkes has initiated a survey of neighborhood trails and pedestrian access routes in West Vancouver to help draw a map. ; “West Van is full of funny fittle parks and access routes to nice little beaches,’’ Fawkes said. She said often those paths are unmarked because ’- vandals take down the signs. She also accused home- owners of trying to obscure beach accesses to increase their privacy. —. . ; ; ' . Fawkes said_many.trails that appear private are in fact public footpaths. ‘‘There are a lot of people walking around and many people don’t know these trails exist,’” she said. : ; The West Vancouver Parks and Recreation board has given cooperation for the project, but the finan- cial aspect has not been discussed :et. Fawkes said she is particularly interested in foot- paths in residential neighborhoods that are shortcuts or beach access routes. . She said adequate maps of hiking trails and bicycle routes exist for North Vancouver. Anyone who has information for Fawkes can con- tact her at 921-7064.
