The following is a list of West Vancouver District candidates published in alphabetica! order. *PAT BONAME *DERRICK HUMPHREYS Personal: Incumbent Humphreys, who gives his age as over 65, is married with five children. A former management consultant, Humphreys has been mayor of West Vancouver for eight years. A resident of West Vancouver for 21 years. Issues: If re-elected says he would continue to work on plans for the community arts centre, the Ambleside-by-the-Sea project and West Vancouver’s 75th anniver- Sary. Comments: Says his strength as mayor is his open-door policy. *DON LANSKAIL Personal: Lanskail, a former West Vancouver alderman for 20 years, was a labor negotiator with B.C. forest industry and lawyer. The 68-year-old is married, with three children. Resident of West Van- “ couver for 30 years. Issues: Says he would work to keep West Vancouver active in regional affairs; alleviate tensions between district and community groups, such as Squamish band; promises extensive public debate on issues. Comments: Believes in open gov- ernment and says his negotiation skills will be an asset. *ROD DAY . Personal: University professor, Personal: Homemaker and com- munity volunteer. Boname, 53, is married with four children. A res- ident of West Vancouver for 16 years. Issues: Wants to enhance West Vancouver’s unique character and values. She considers prudent con- trol and management of change to be the foremost civic issue. Comments: A West Vancouver school trustee for the past two years. Served in RCAF. *ANDREI DANYLIU Personal: Regional manager of the Technical Service Council for B.C. and the Yukon. Danyliu, 44, is married to Meredith Danyliu, Issues: Says his skills as a negotiator will help resolve issues such as development above Upper Levels Highway and Ambleside Park. Wants to preserve West Vancouver’s unique character. Comments: A Rotarian, who is in- volved in West Vancouver's arts community. *DAVID FINLAY Personal: Incumbent alderman seeking fifth term. Lawyer, Finlay, 54, has lived in West Vancouver for 19 years. Married with two children. Issues: Concerned with future development above Upper Levels Highway, development of Ambleside waterfront and housing for seniors. Says citizen input and controlled development is neces- sary to preserve district’s charac- ter, Wants to keep tax dollars as low as possible without impairing social services. Comments: Responsible for the Planning and Development port- folio and district's smoking regula- tion bylaw. eCUTHBERT FLEMING Personal: A manufacturers’ agent, Fleming, 63, has been a resident of West Vancouver for over 40 years. He's married with three children. Issues: Believes West Vancouver needs leaders who have common sense; are fair and reasonable. Favors a strong move to encourage young family facilities in the community. Would work towards establishing flood control measures, Comments: Member of West Van- couver Kiwanis. *DON GRIFFITHS Personal: Incumbent Griffiths, 64, is a consultant and a member of the Association of Professional Engineers. He's married with three children. Issues: Says he’s particularly con- cerned with matters relating to recycling, flood control, road repair and maintenance. Comments: Helped initiate West Vancouver's curbside pick-up of newspapers. Active in community groups, and is on St. Davids’s United Church membership com- mittee.
