TES TS pers eM URS DT WEST VAN ELECTION Congratul and up-front campaign Dear Editor: I would fike to congratulate Don Lanskail on a clean, up-front and upbeat campaign. | especially want to thank him for his integrity. Mr. Lanskail made it clear that he did not want to ‘towe’’ any per- son or group and set a ceiling of $500 on contributions to his cam- paign. Big money cheques of up to $5,000 were returned, His support came from all levels and areas throughout the nunicipatity. Tt would also lixe to express my admiration for the senior citizens of West Vancouver, who really know the importance of the indi- ‘ vidual’s vote. Some made heroic efforts to get to the polls. One lady was taken to Irwin iean Park polling station by ambulance and was carried in by stretcher to vote. | don’t know who the woman was — but I would like to. She represents to me everything that is great about our system. Collectively, the individual can and does determine government. Mary Kay Fox West Vancouver thanks coach Dear Editor: School cutbacks have caused the number of schoo! teams to drop. Most teachers cannot afford to give up their time to coach a team. This makes Dr. L.S. Boothroyd, a physician in West Vancouver, a very special person. During the past five years, Dr. L.S. Boothroyd has taken numerous hours aways from his job, cancelling appointments and potential income, to coach the West Vancouver Secondary School senior girls grass hockey team. Over 60 years old and going sirung, Dr. Bocthroyd shows more excitement and energy on the sidelines than many of the players. His Brilish expressions and ancient tin whistle give a new meaning to the game of grass hockey. Juliet Craig, team captain Caroline Bodie, team co-captain West Vancouver Secondary School CRITE Dear Editor: Derrick Humphreys lost an elec- tion. It is not pleasant to lose. It is painful. I am deeply saddenec by the mean-spiritedness shown by the person(s) who stole his “MAYOR’”’ vanity plate. It-leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The voters spoke, that was quite sufficient.
