Cafe Terrace’s menu is small, but meals are well prepared with good attention to detail. As a result, food is simple but never dull. Mr. Lim invests the culinary skills developed over 14 years as a chef at Vancouver's Arbutus Club in all Terrace creations. The restaurant features a half dozen entrees, all priced around $9. Other menu items — a few ap- petizers, some soups, salads and sandwiches — range from $2 to $6. The Terrace also has a small beer and wine selection, with wines listed at between $9.95 and $14.75. Beer ranges from $2 for local to $2.75 for imported brew. Consistent with its back-alley billing and second-banana _per- sona, the Cafe Terrace is imbued with a neighborly and casual at- mosphere. Table turnover is low on Mrs. Lim's priority list. Lingering is allowed. My wife and I, alerted by an astute reader, searched out the Cafe Terrace on a recent Friday night. In the mood for a dining experi- ence a few decibels below the ‘80s restaurant norm, we strolled in. We tested a Wonton Soup ($3.50) and a plate of Calamari ($4.75). The latter was selected after we were informed that the Chicken Livers (sauteed in black bean sauce and fresh ginger and garlic, $4.75) were ‘‘not very NEWS photo Stuart Davis CAFE TERRACE owners Thomas and Laura Lim display one of Timothy Renshaw’s favorite indulgences... stuffed breast of chicken with peanut brandy sauce, . oS and enjoy supreme quality atheavenly price pre pine a oe Sirloin Steak Dinners (6 0z.) 2 for $12.98 or BONANZA 1 for 56.49 Oeraber $2, 19%) Alter wocludes Selon Steak Dinner, baked putate ur trench: they Oter ged Pus a trp to oni all you can wat Freshtatties Fined Bar ANT days cl the week Olffer good at all participating Bonanza Restaurants 2 for $11.98 or 1 for $5.99 Otter includes delicious Chicken Montytey Diane: (buneless chic hen bevastsl, Baked potatu oF trench Ines, plus a trp tu out all wu can eas Freshtasks Food Bar Ofer good af all perticipsting Bonanza Restaurants Filet of Sole Dinners Filet of Sole Dinners Cafe Terrace allows $8.98 Bonanza, 2 for °8.98 or ponanza, 7 for °8.98 or 1 for $4.49 1 for $4.49 On te ts Citfer includes Files Sode Dinner, baked potata or french: Ita plas Cotes ne Offer ncludes Piet of Sule Dharer, habed potatu or fteneh thes us Oleg ' ator ‘a uur all woucaneat Freshtarbis Food Gar Otter ged 4 trp to aut all yu can eat Freshtastiee Frest Bor Al Jaen ite wreh Offer good at all participating Bonanza Restaurants ANT days ibe week — Olfet good at al? participating Bonanza Restaurants. i hop Steak Di Chop Steak Diners Chop Steak Dinners BONANZA, 2 for °8.98 or Bonanza, 2 for °8.98 or a 1 for $4.49 1 for $4.49 . The soup was tastv and full of shrimp-filed wontons, but the calamari came encased in a batter too thick to allow proper apprecia- tion of its squid interiors, Entrees savored, however, were both delicious. A Stuffed Breast of Chicken ($8.95), filled with chicken mousseline and seafood, was serv- ed with a lovely peanut and brandy Sauce. Lamb Dijonnaise ($8.75) featured four healthy chops baked in a light jacket of Dijon mustard and parsley bread crumbs, each served with a piquant peppercorn sauce. Both dishes were accompanied with boiled potatoes and simple vegetuble side medley of tomato and broccoli. Service was wonderfully hazard and extremely friendly. TASTY MORSELS T.J. CINNAMONS BAKERY, CAPILANO MALL, NORTH VANCOUVER Gourmet cinnamon buns roiled onto the North Shore with the Sept. 19 grand opening of this new cafe-bakery. Originating in Kansas City, Missouri in January, 1985, T.J.'s was founded by the husband and wife team of Ted and Joyce Rice. The two launched their operation on the sticky and = scrumptious principles of classic full-figure cin- namon buns. Seven months after opening their first T.J.’s, the Rice’s had 36 outlets in the U.S. A recent test box of T.J.’s buns bore out the press package hurrah over the bakery’s claim to fame. Buns were heavy (nine ounces), appropriately sodden with swirls of brown sugar, cinnamon and butter and sprinkled with walnuts. The original J.J.'s cinnamon roll goes for $1.59 for one or $1.45 each for six or more. * Serving The North Shore For Over 40 years! 7 days a week Free parking 117-260 W.
