Seymour A NEW chairlift, more night skiing and a new management team are all part of a 1985-1986 million dollar upgrading program to North Vancouver's Mount Seymour. The improvements, says Director of Skiing Wayne Wong, are designed to enhance Seymour’s reputa- tion as an affordable, full- featured local ski facility. “Local ski hills usually have the reputation of being just so-so,”’ he said. ‘‘But I think people are going to be surprised when they see what’s happened to Seymour."’ The ski facility, located in Mount Seymour Provincia! Park, was privatized last year by the Socred government. The privatization, says Wong, is the “best thing that could have happened’’ to Seymour. “Being a private operation means we really have to be competitive, and you can’t be competitive in this industry without offering the best in facilities and service. And that’s what we're doing now. We're spending a lot of money — not only on addi- tional lifts and facilities, but on quality of service as well. I'd say we now have one of the most comprehensive staff training programs in the in- dustry. When geople ski Seymour, we feel they’re go- ing-to find a level of service unsurpassed by any. hill, - anywhere.” a NORTH ' VANCOUVER Ci- ty “Ald! Ar- buthnot has been appointed the new Ski School Director for Mount Seymour. “We are particularly pro- ud to have been able to add Tim to our staff,” Wong said. “Mount Seymour has always been an excelient ski school, but having Tim Ar- buthnot as Ski School Direc- tor will guarantee the in- troduction of new and up-to- date skiing techniques.’’ Adding the new 1,400 ft. Mueller double chairlift will increase the mountain's skier capacity by over 1,450 skiers per hour, Wong said, and the resort has added more night lights and runs for night ski- ing enthusiasts. As well, Wong said Seymour js expanding its other winter recreation ac- tivities, including a Mountain Adventures Program (snowshoeing, hiking, basic winter survival courses, etc.) and cross-country skiing. . “There are very few places in the Lower Mainland where Mahon field resurfaced the entire North Shore for nearly a century.’’ Hall stated the field has been able to accommodate a variety of sports due to its excellent drainage, but that the heavy load imposed on the :field has resulted in a playing field ‘‘that ‘is. ser- viceable, but is far less than first class and far from that that should be expected at this premier location.” Said Hall in his motion: ‘«|.it is befitting that the ci- ty’s heritage park be upgraded as befitting its his- torical status.”’ - Hall requested funds be * allocated for a new surface for the field in the city’s 1986 provisional budget. ~ you can actually snowshoe on specified trails and, we're proud to say, our cross- country ski trails are still free-of-charge."’ Though Mount Seymour Ski Resorts Ltd. has already PASSER aa ¥j & i a FREE Photos with Santa. & Saturday, November 16 only f until 4:00 p.m. ' i GS~S PARK ROYAL 4 The Centre of Auention for 35 Years jl 1950-1985 Santa Claus 1s coming fo | Park Royal : This Saturday | Parade Starts: .
