again. There’s been an annual general meeting
and the company says that BCRIC ‘‘enjoyed an

improved year in 1983 as it fine-tuned its existing
operations and brought three new major projects

into operation.”’

And photos of the official
slate of directors in the recent
BCRIC elections show more
smiles than you would see at
a cat banquet in a Dairy

they all look as if their cream
supply will never give out

(which in Howe's case it
never will).
As is well known, this

space is always on the search
for good news. Not too long
ago we cheered you up with
items from the Good News
News, the official Socred
publication. Well, the only
thing that is possibly more
cheering than the GNN is the
constant good news from
BCRIC. | could hardly wait
to get my hands on the latest
stuff, and sure enough,
things are so good that they
are changing the name of the
company to Westar. Some
parts of the good old firm
have already been dubbed
Westar, aS a matter of fact.

There are churls who claim
that a change of name is
essential, BCRIC having such
a bad reputation that the in-
vestment world breaks out in-
to spots whenever the present
name is mentioned. But
that’s not the way the com-
pany puts it in one of its
many good news pamphlets.
What it says is that the new
monicker ‘‘would better
reflect the international

nature of the company.”’

can do for people, it being
Westar Mining they’re talk-
ing about.

The good news goes on and

‘Profits Up, Debt Down,
Future Promiusing’’. Heck,

even when the bottom drops
out of the financial world,
good old BCRIC or Westar
or whatever it 1s just won't
stop pitching.

Two years ago, company
boss Howe (he’s the one they
didn’t name the street after)
gave a speech in which he
said:

“While these are difficult
times there are many
positive things to state about
the company. In fact, | think
Il is NOt an exaggeration to
say that our company fairly
abounds with good news...""

My point exactly, Bruce
baby. But when will the
peasants get the good news
that they can go out and flog
their sad-looking shares at a
profit?
