Gs election countdown Braithwaite emphasizes services and citizen input THE QUALITY of life for both young and old in North Vancouver City neighborhoods is a prime concern of John Braithwaite who is running for a seat on City council in the November 19 election. A former City alderman (1972-1976), Braithwaite says: ‘‘Orderly development of our city has continued to be my concern for many years. I believe in citizen par- ticipation in the development of municipal policies. . **As an alderman, I was always available to in- dividuals, community groups and business to assist them in attempting to resolve issues of concern to them. That’s a priority.’’ Two specific concerns of his own are ‘‘delay in plann- ed development of City- owned lands adjacent to Lonsdale Quay’’ — on which JOHN BRAITHWAITE he urges priority action — and the contracting out of garbage service. Involve community in schools -- Jessup **DIALOGUE, not confron- tation,’’ must be maintained by both sides in the current conflict over educational policies to prevent ‘‘serious damage’’ to the North Van- couver school system. That's the message from Margaret Jessup, incumbent school trustee since 1979, who is seeking re-election toa third term as North Van City representative on the school board in the November 19 election. Topping the poll four years ago and returned by acclama- tion in 1981, she has also been a director of North Shore Family Services for 15 years and has served on the boards of many other com- munity organizations. Of her work on the school board, of which she served for a year as chairman, Jessup notes in particular the MARGARET JESSUP achievements of a committee she headed to study student learning difficulties. The committee involved com- munity and parent groups and agencies with the schools in order to work out solu- tions, and she is continuing her work in that field.
