First, let me congratulate the Chairman Mark Sager on his efficiency in chairing a very difficult meeting. Trustee Furk, your precise presentation of the 1982 Budget and your well thought out remarks con- veyed the concerns of the board to all in attendance. Thank you for a job well done. To Trustee Alban who said he had just arrived back from “Bolivia”, I suggest he did not treat the meeting with the seriousness it deserved and humbly sug- gest that instead of carrying on a titillating conversation with Mr. Carlin (who should know better) when the Chairman is- speaking, that he pay attention and understand what is taking place. And if his employ- ‘Pawn’ protests Dear Editor: I am writing concerning an issue which is going to greatly affect the future generations of our country. I refer to the provincial budget cuts to the schools. Being a student, presently in high school, and having received news that next year will not be as usual in con- tent, is most i The school system is not what it could be, but to hear that instead of getting better it is going to get worse is As a result of budget cuts teachers will be laid off, classes will be enlarged and some schools will be closed. Other results are the loss of programs such as sports and musical events, as well as other extra-curricular § ac- For tivities. Learning assistance services are going to be restricted and inadequate maintenance will take place. Teenagers will roam the streets with nothing to do after school and vandalism will increase. Deterioration of educational content can- not help but seriously affect the incentive of students to work at all. I urge all concerned par- ties, whether you have children or not, to think seriously about this matter and to write to your MP, MLA and local school baord expressing your views. We, the future generation, do not want to be used as “political pawns”. Caroline Meyer West Vancouver Valentine’s Wall Umit Smoked Rattan & Wover Cane ? Mrs. Paddy Boyle could extend to the Chairman the Same courtesy that he did to period. It caused me to ques- tion the sincerity of her pur- pose! Many of us who have at- tended the “All Candidates Meetings” and have watched the teacher, Mr. Mitchell, act like the heavy in a “B” class movie suggest that he would serve his followers better by being a little more temperate and _ _iless belligerent. We, the tax- payers, are not children. With regard to myself, there are 60% of the tax- payers who do not have children attending school andwe feel that we have the same rights as the teachers and parents with children in the system and are entitled to have the same “say” in the budgets as the pressure groups. Therefore, Mr. Sager, I was pleased to hear you state that we will be given the op- portunity to have a represen- tative at the budget meetings.
