Let's not worry about
the adult population here
people because they've
made their de

In a recent study it was
revealed 85% of adult smok-
ers didn't want to give up
the weed, which is their
own prerogative.

Bur we have to show
some backbone whea it
comes to our kids. We love
and care for our children
but the fact is that 50% of
all the youngsters that
smoke are going to die ago-
nizing, painful and prema-
ture deaths because the
people we elect won't take
the issue seriously.

The B.C. government
receives around $450 mil-
lion a year in taxes from the
purchase of cigarettes, so
let’s put it back into the

" system and educate people

about the disastrous conse-
quences of lighting up.
Kids, and particularly

young women often smoke

to keep their weight under
control.

Help encourage them to
realize that an exercise pro-
gram and participation in
recreational sport can have
the same effect without any
of the negatives.

They'll also feel a hell of
a lor better and save a ton
of moncy to spend on other

‘things like clothes, movies

and the like.

There is something sinis-
ter abour.a society that puts
money ahead of the lives of
children. As parents, teach-
ers, coaches and involved
individuals we must try and
make-a difference.

Talk to your kids.
Explain the down side but
promote the options and
the upside.
