Masters swimming (19+) is also growing at an incredibic rate, and several clubs exist on the North Shore catering to these individuals. If interested, phone around the lucal aquatic centres and find a club thar suits your needs, personality and desired level of commitment. You can just work out or compete in organized Masters swim meets that take place on a regular basis, H you're more the outdoor type, there are ocean races around the Lower Mainland every weekend in July ranging in distance from 1km to 10km. If you're a novice these races do allow the use of a wetsuit and vou should take advantage of this fact. When you become more experienced and better conditioned you will no doubt want to shed the outer layer and expenence the exquisite feeling of swimming with the ocean touching your skin. There are some people thar never make that final move and they are sometimes affectionate- ly referred to as fish in chicken’s clothing! For North Shore athletes wanting to improve their open water swimming skills, there is a club available to vou. Tom grew up in Nebraska and fearned to swim as a child. He eventually went on to college as a varsity swisn- mer and continued to train throughout his working life.
