Who were the concerned
“anti-racists?” Why, none
other than David
Lethbridge, the communist
Okanagan College academic,
and his ever lovin’ accom-
plice — Marxist Alan
Dutton of the so-called
Canadian Anti-racist and
Education Society.

Dutton is financed by
Victoria and Ottawa and
goes around smearing any-
one who has the spine to
criticize the politicians’ crazy
immigration policies.

He boasts about how he
caused the Surrey Inn to
shut down a free speech
conference. And his and
Lethbridge’s favorite words
are “fascist” and “racist.”

Our media are suckers for
that sort of stuff. They run
it at the drop of a hat.
Especially The Sun. Call it
the Daily Sun Run. And this
time it made an even bigger
fool of itself than usual.

Among the other things
that Libertarians stand for is
a completely open-door
immigration policy. Some
racists! They practically want
no government at all.

and they are willing to listen
to any point of view and
debate it.

After I had spoken about
the threat to freedom of
speech posed by Bill 33 and
the like, an American said
we should ignore the thing,
say what we please, and
watch while the Human
Rights Council disappears
under a deluge of com-
plaints. They wouldn’t be
able to handle it, he said.

I told him that this is
Canada and we are much
too timid for that sort of
thing, but that 1 was doing
my best. The audience

- applauded. In fact, after I

had finished speaking they
gave me a standing ovation,
which did nothing for my
modesty.

Nor did the fact that I
was in the company of so
many brains. Walter Block,
formerly of the Fraser
Institute, was there. In addi-
tion to being a distinguished
economist and author he is a
Jewish comic. Walter doesn’t
even believe we should have
libel laws. I forgot to ask
him whether duels were
preferable.

Then there was Colorado
State Senator Charles Duke,
a Republican who got the
