Local cyclist dies

in crash

A NORTH Vancouver man
died on Sunday after he was
struck by a car on the Pat Bay
Highway near Victoria.

Reid Hoodspith, 47, was cycling
on the road before being hit by a car
travelling in the sane direction.

Hoodspith was the son of veteran
local newspaperman Cloudesley
Shovelle Quintin Hoodspith.

Cloudesley Hoodspith was at
various times the owner of the Lions
Gate Times, the North Shore Times,
the Squamish Times and the
Whistler Citizen.

Cloudesley Hoodspith died fast
September at age 75.

Meanwhile Sasnich Police say
James Cook, 56. of Victoria, is
charged with impaired driving cnus-
ing death in connection with the
fatal collision.

Cook and a passenger were treal-

ed for minor injuries as a result of

rolling the car in a ditch after the
collision, according to. Saanich
Police.

Police say Reid Hoodspith was
thrown from his bike and funded in
a ditch after being struck by the car.
