Social housing residents
receive scholarship money

Dolores Warren was recently
selected as one of 26 British
Columbians to share a $20,000
provincial government scholarship

this September, according to the
Education Ministry.

The move to tiandatory acered-
itation for all schools is part of the
education system changes
announced Jast November. About
156 schools will undergo accredi-
tation in the 1994-95 school year,
This will increase to 256 by 1998.

are phased into a six-year aceredi-
lifion cycle, according to the
Education Ministrs

The acereditation process con
sists oft an internal assessment
undertaken by the school: and the
development of a “school-erowth
pian a review and validation by
an external team resulting ia cer-
tificate of accreditation.

As part of the internal assess-
ment process, all schools are
required to survey their parents,
students and local community.
The internal assessment must have
parent and student representation
in addition to mentbers of the
school's staff.

External teams will continue to
be composed of educators, min-
istry representatives as well as a
parent. student or other representa-
tives from business or labor.

Districts are being encouraged
to include parents and students
from outside the district on the
external teums.

According to Education
Minister Art Cuarbonneau the
accreditation process will facili-
tate plans:for making schools bet-
ter places to learn and provide
more accountability at the local
level.
