for anyone to book trips around
Christmas.

But she suggests the following
;, tips for people who have already
“ pooked ‘travel for Christmastime:

* leave extra carly for the airport;

* be prepared for lineups at your
destination;

° -briag a warm jacket along, if
going to a warm destination.

Bailey said airports are crowded

and winter weather can extend the’
time usually necessary to get to the.

She said that occasionally some
flights may be oversold, so it can
become a first-come, first-served
situation to get on a plane despite
having a reservation for a Christmas
flight.

She added that Christmas holi-
days ase a popular time for many
people to travel, so expect lineups
at popular restaurants in Hawaii.

But flight delays may occur dur-
ing connecting flights in colder
places like Toronto and Chicago

She said the popular destinations
for winter travel are Mexico and
Hawaii. She said cruises are also
popular.

And travellers wanting to visit
family over the Christmas holidays
also are a major component of the
number of people making treks
from airports.

She suggests that, if possible,
people should book their holidays
to start before the Christmas rush.

For example, booking a flight to
Hawaii, for a three-week vacation .
Starting on Dec. 10 or Dec. 12 can

- cost about 5400 less than a flight

that leaves on Dec. 18.

: “If people can be more flexible
with their timing, why not go from
the 10th to the 10th? And that can
save them a lot of money,” said
Bailey.

There also are travellers who
want to go to colder destinations
around Christmastime, choosing ski
holidays to places like Whistler and
Big White, she said. These trav-
ellers usually drive to their destina-
tions.

“The only thing at Christmas is
that they can’t always be guaran-
teed of the snow. They also have to
book really early or they can’t get a
condo.

“And they have no idea what the
snow will be like, but they are com-
mitted.”

Bailey says some clients contact

her in January to book for the fol- ©

lowing Christmas.

“At that point, you usually can’t
book anything, but at least I. know
that they want to go to Hawaii or
wherever. It depends on the destina-
tion, but sometimes even by April,
it’s too Jate,” said Bailey.
