Charity foundation starts up [ANNOUNCEMENT THE NEWLY-established North Shore Charitable Foundation held its first meeting recently at the Capilano Lions House. The new community foundation has been formed with the objective of assisting qualified voluntary organizations seeking funding. Foundation organizers have identified approximately 80 volun- tary non-profit registered charities of financial help, but their funding criteria cannot always be met by these local service organizations. The foundation aims to fill a gap in the means of providing for needy local services. The foundation is registered with the Department of National Revenue in Ottawa as a public foundation under the rules applicable to registered charities. Donations qualify for income tax relief to the donor. Foundation directors for 1989- 90 are community worker Sheila Gilmour, chartered accountant retired financial executive David Gibbs, educator ‘Salim Kaderali, professor Olga Kempo, marketing executive David Pink, management consultant Linn Teetzel and home economist Jane Thompson.
