NATIONAL AWARDS International Hardsuits honored for excellence A NORTH Vancouver company, balancing on the cutting edge of underwater high technology, has picked up a bronze medal in the inventions category of the fourth annual Canada Awards of Business Excellence. The awards ceremony was held last week in Halifax. Phil Nuytten, president and CEO of International Hardsuits Inc., received a bronze trophy from the Hon. Robert de Cotret, minister of Regional Industrial Expansion for his development of the Newtsuit. The innovative deep-sea diving suit allows low-friction rotation under extreme pressure sustained in depths of up to 1,000 feet for a prolonged period of time. The one-atmosphere suit does not require decompression equip- ment or support crews. In all, gold, silver and bronze trophies were presented to 38 companies representing cight areas of business — small business, pro- ductivity, marketing, en- trepreneurship, labor/management cooperation, innovation, invention and industrial design.
