ART GALLERY ViSITS 19 - Friday, Joly 25. 1986 - North shore News Popular Canadian art course returns LOCAL RESIDENTS have a se- cond opportunity to take the highly successful telecourse Con- temporary Art in Canada (CAC) this fall. An enthusiastic response to ils first offering last year has en- couraged sponsors Emily Carr College of Art and Design (EC- CAD), the Open Learning Institute (OLI) and Knowledge Network to repeat the precedent setting course, starting September 15. Coho Festival |to promote| | visual art | THIS YEAR, as part of the annual Coho Festival Sept. 2 to 7 on the North Shore, there will be an ad- judicated exhibition of paintings, drawings and prints open to all ar- tists. The festival is a popular event that draws good crowds for its varied activities, and, because the exhibition will be held at Park Royal there will be an opportunity for the works to be scen by a lot of people. Yhe West Vancouver Communi- ty Arts Council will coordinate the exhibition and its jurying. In keeping with the festival event, all work entered in the ex- hibit must be of a subject related to the salmon industry. This does not mean that there has to be a salmon in every entry. Fishing boats, docks, canneries, salmon habitat, fishermen, hat- cheries, fishing gear, cans, and salmon cuisine would all be ap- propriate subjects. All work must be suitably and securely framed for exhibition. Any work not deemed so by the jury or committee will be eliminated from the exhibition. The exhibit will not be able to accommodate very large work on the available display system so work should be small, having no dimension greater than 40 inches. There will be an entry fee of $5 per work, or three for $10. There will be a maximum of three entries per person. Registration will be held Sept. 2. Jurying will be conducted Sept. 3. The exhibition will run from September 4 to 7. Registration forms will be available from the West Vancouver Community Arts Council, 922- HULO. Those surveyed at the conclusion of CAC’s pilot run reported the course increased their enjoyment of Canadian art and appreciation of differing modes of expression. For them visits to galleries became more enjoyable and rewarding. As a result of these positive responses Nini Baird and col- leagues will use the course as a case study for the International Con- ference on Distance Education in Oslo, Norway in 1988.
