WVEA being used Dear Editor: The West Vancouver responsibilities I assumed in other community aad professional organizations. However, my interest in the future of West Vancouver will always continue. In an cffort to “maintain the quality of life in West Vancouver”, it will become increasingly difficult with an almost fixed residential and commercial property base to balance future municipal budgets without increases in taxation above the inflation rate. While decreasing taxation may be a drastic fimancial cuts may well change the nature of the community we now cnjoy. Future councils have a difficult task. This was the case this year, where the con- siderable research and the subsequent recom- mendations of the association directors was ignored in 2 of the 3 school board endorsements. The association's - reputation is thus being used by a highly partisan group to further their own ends — not those of the association’s charter, ‘issue politics’ relationships with the municipal staff and all of the aldermen and two mayors I have served with. West Vancouver Council has been an elected group which has displayed a high quality of debate without the presence of party or personal politics. I trust this will continue since, in a community of our , size and nature, it is im- portant to maintain a Council capable of rational and reasonable decision making qualities without the interference of personal or isan faction nor necessarily the provision of sound municipal government. I believe, therefore, that the electorate should consider ali candidates and the views they hold, and not abdicate their decision to the elector’s association in the mistaken belief that the association’s recom- mendation’s are not in- fluenced by parties in politics. J. Kyle Gardiner West Vancouver biased “issue politics”. My interests and concerns will always be with the West Vancouver Council since I realize the importance of municipal government. I will like to return to the local government scene once my present obligations have been completed and, therefore, I can only hope that the West Vancouver electorate will have me back! Robert N. (Wed. Nov. 10. 1982). Unfortunately, every year stories appear in which children have been badly hurt while playing with fire. What I am most con- cerned with, is your reporting of the story. The story gave detailed in- structions on how to play the deadly game.
