NEWS BRIEFS Skis stolen THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP and Crime Stoppers are looking for thieves who have twice since September broken into the Sun and Snow Sperts store located at 1324 Main St. The latest incident occurred some time overnight be- tween Oct. 14 and 15 and involved the theft of equip- ment worth approximately $40,000. The crooks forced open the rear door of the saop and removed 12 single skis that were in the store as demonstrator models. All were 190 cm (75 in.) long. Four of these skis were later recovered in the area. The thieves also took 73 pairs of Precision skis, which included zsaodels PRE M4.2, PRE MS5.2, PRE M6.2, and PRE 840, 850, 860. Eighteen pairs of the skis were mounted with either Salomon 757D or Marker M48D bindings. The skis were ‘all 190 cm (75 in.) to 205 cm (81 in.) in tength. Fifty-five pairs of the skis cid not have any bindings attached: all were 19)-cm Precision skis and of varying models, Also stolen in the latest incident were 20 assorted Scott mountain bikes. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,900 for an anonymous tip that Jeads to the arrest and charging of these thieves or anyone else who com- mits a crime, Flashlight fraud SINCE JAN. 8, the Arthritis Society has been receiving calls tha¢ a man is approaching customers throughout Lower Mainland shopping centres and attempting to sell flashlights as a fundraiser for the Arthritis Society. But the Arthritis Society recommends that anyone who has purchased a flashlight from the man should call the fraud department of the Vancouver Police. The flashlight seller has no connection with the Ar- thritis Society and is operating without their knowledge. He reportedly sells the flashtights, which are described as being standard flashlights with an attached fluorescent emergency top light, for $7.95, Owner sought THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP are searching for the owner of an elaborate and expensive brooch. The brooch was turned over to police in August after it was left on consignment with a tocal jeweller. The police describe the piece as being made of plati- num or white gold.
